The Fluke-9040 is suitable for measuring phase rotation in all areas. where three-phase power supplies are used for motors, drives, and electrical systems. The Fluke 9040 is a phase sequence indicator and can provide a clear indication of the three-phase phase and the direction of phase rotation via an LCD display to determine correct connections.

It allows quick determination of phase sequence and has a voltage (up to 700V) and frequency range suitable for commercial and industrial applications. The supplied test probes have a variable clamping area for secure contact, even in industrial sockets.

If a three-phase motor turns in the wrong direction, you can swap two wires to go in the direction you want. One way to test the motor’s direction is to guess how to connect the wires, then run the motor and note the direction of rotation. If you make a mistake, disconnect two cables and swap cables.

Determine the Rotary Field Direction

1.  Connect the test leads to the end of the test leads.
2. Connect the test leads to the three main phases.
3. The green POWER indicator shows that the instrument is ready for testing.
4. Either clockwise or counterclockwise.
5. Clockwise rotating indicator lights up showing type the direction of the current spin field
