Fluke 417D Laser Distance Meter compass

The compass function allows you to know the view or direction while taking measurements. This is useful indoors to steer blueprints in the right direction. It’s also useful for knowing the right direction when calculating the efficiency of a solar panel.

  •  Make sure the end piece is folded in.
  •  When using the compass function, the meter will display the calibration message. For more information, see Compass Calibration.
  • The compass arrows flash on the display when the gauge is tilted more than 20° side-to-side or more than 10° sideways.
  • When you turn on the compass, the meter will display the calibration message. See Manual Calibration for more information

Magnetic Declination in Fluke 417D Laser Distance Meter

The difference between the geographic north pole and the magnetic north pole is known as magnetic declination, or more precisely declination. The declination angle is different in different places on earth. The geographic and magnetic poles are aligned so declination is minimal. In some places, the angle between the two poles can be quite large
