The Testo 868s thermal camera has a number of useful features that help users get the most out of its impressive thermal imaging capabilities. The non-contact infrared thermal sensor has a resolution of 160 x 120 pixels and measures temperatures from -30˚C to 650˚C in two separate ranges. Thermal sensitivity is only 80 mK, which means temperature differences as small as 0.1˚C can be viewed on the screen. The 31˚ x 23˚ fixed focal length field of view allows the user to perform a quick inspection of the over a large area.

Images and videos are displayed on the Testo 868’s color screen which has four color palettes. The ScaleAssist feature automatically selects a color scale to accurately highlight temperature differences in the image. Hot and cold spot recognition also highlights extremes displayed on the screen while ε-Assist automatically adjusts the emissivity settings to maintain accuracy. Optional Testo SuperResolution software artificially increases the resolution to 320 x 240 pixels for more accurate thermal imaging.

A digital camera is integrated into the Testo 868 so that they can record visible images alongside their temperature measurement counterparts, allowing for easier heatmap analysis. Images and videos can be saved to the large internal memory of the camera (2.8 GB) and then transferred to a PC via a USB cable or to a smart device with the Testo Thermography app (available for free on Google Play and App Store) over a wireless WLAN connection.

The Testo 868s is designed with practicality in mind and is sturdy enough to withstand the bumps and scratches of everyday use. It has an IP54 rating and four hours of battery life, so it’s suitable for outdoor use. Several accessories are supplied as standard including a USB cable, battery charger, software, ε marker, calibration certificate, and carrying case. Testo also offers a 2-year manufacturer’s warranty.
