Working Theory

The digital ultrasonic thickness gauge precisely measures the amount of time needed for a brief ultrasonic pulse generated by a transducer to pass through the thickness of a part or structure, reflect from the inside or back surface, and then return to the transducer. The observed two-way transit time is multiplied by the sound velocity in the material after being divided by two to account for the down-and-back travel path. The well-known connection reflects the outcome: H=v×t/2
