megger TTR20-1 Transformer turns ratio tester

The Megger TTR20-1 is an automatic, hand-held, battery-operated transformer turns ratio test set. It is used to measure the turns ratio, excitation current, and polarity of windings in single- and three-phase distribution and power transformers (tested phase by phase), potential and current transformers, and tapped transformers.

The unique design of the TTR20-1 allows the user to operate the test set while holding it in one hand. It effectively eliminates the user from having to kneel or bend down to operate the instrument and speeds up testing time. Realizing the extreme environments in which the TTR20-1 must operate, special attention has been paid to making it extra rugged, with a high impact, shock-resistant case, yet incredibly lightweight at a mere 870 g (1.9 lbs).

Its design makes this instrument well-suited for use in a variety of harsh environments. The TTR20-1 is particularly suited for testing in substations, transformer-manufacturing environments, and meter shops. It features a high-contrast, backlit LCD screen that can be seen in bright or ambient light.

Key Features of the Megger TTR20-1:

The Megger TTR20-1 Transformer Turns Ratio Tester is an essential device specifically engineered for the precise measurement of the turns ratio, excitation current, and phase deviation of power, distribution, and instrument transformers. This portable tester is widely recognized for its reliability and accuracy in field testing and is a critical tool for ensuring transformer performance and longevity.

  • Accuracy and Precision: The TTR20-1 offers high accuracy in measuring the turns ratio of transformers, which is crucial for identifying manufacturing defects and assessing the condition of a transformer post-installation or after repair. Its measurements help ensure that transformers are operating efficiently and within their specified parameters.
  • Portability: Designed with field usability in mind, the TTR20-1 is lightweight and compact, making it easy to transport and use in a variety of on-site conditions, from utility substations to industrial environments.
  • User-Friendly Interface: The device features a simple, intuitive interface that allows for quick setup and easy operation. This ease of use is enhanced by a clear display and straightforward control options, facilitating efficient and error-free testing.
  • Comprehensive Testing Capabilities: Beyond turns ratio, the TTR20-1 measures excitation current and phase deviation. These measurements are important for diagnosing possible issues within the transformer such as shorted turns, open circuits, and core defects.
  • Automatic Test Functions: The tester automates several functions including demagnetization of the transformer after testing, which helps to prevent any residual magnetism that could affect subsequent tests or transformer performance.
  • Data Storage and Transfer: The TTR20-1 is equipped with internal storage for test results, which can be easily transferred to a PC for analysis, record-keeping, and detailed reporting. This feature is particularly useful for maintaining long-term performance records and trend analysis.
  • Robust Construction: Built to withstand rugged use, the TTR20-1 features a durable design that resists environmental and operational stresses, ensuring reliable performance under challenging conditions.
